Around Yashio

There are plenty of interesting spots in the area around Yashio. There are many onsens, hiking trails and scenic views. You will be awed by the breathtaking landscape and refreshed by the clean air. If you are lucky, you might even see some monkeys or deer!

Jaou Waterfall
At the back of Yashio, down a short trail through the woods is the beautifully clear Kawabe river and the Jaou waterfall. Here you can relax, fish or just take in the clear mountain air and beautiful scenery.

Setoai Viewpoint
A short drive up the mountains towards Kawamata brings you to the spectacular viewpoint of Setoai - officially one of the top 100 best scenic points in Japan. Here you can take a short hike to the suspension bridge over the valley with Kawamata Dam and the lake on one side and the beautiful mountains and river on the other.

Osasa Farm
On the way back towards Nikko you can stop off at Osasa farm and enjoy the rolling greenlands, farm animals, icecream and lamb barbeque.

Heike no Sato - In the Tale of Genji it is described how the Heike Clan escaped to Yunishigawa in Kuriyama and set up a secret settlement. Visitors to Heike no Sato can relive life in old rural Japan, as well as learn about the history of the Heike Clan.

Onsens - Visitors are spoilt for choice with some of the best onsens around. Shiki no Yu has 2 outdoor baths with spectacular views over the valley.
