About Yashio

Yashio Soba-ya welcomes you to Kuriyama-village in Nikko. Our restaurant is located in a beautiful setting surrounded by the wonderful colours of the mountains. We serve traditional home-made Japanese dishes using a variety of fresh ingredients from the surrounding area. If you are here for the scenery, hot spring or just for a day out, please drop-in at Yashio and enjoy some of the best soba around!

Many of the ingredients used in our dishes are handpicked in the surrounding moutains of Kuriyama. Our extensive knowledge of the local area means that we can pick the best maitake mushrooms and mountain vegetables to ensure that our meals are not only healthy, but fresh and delicious too.

Specialties include Mountain Vegetable Soba, "Dattan" Soba, and Katsudon Set. There is also a specials board offering up the latest fresh fare.

Yashio first opened for business in 1988 and takes its name from the Yashio Azalea flower which can be found in abundance on the mountain-side behind the restaurant.

The flowers are in full bloom in May and illuminate the mountain side in a brilliant myriad of pinks, reds, purples and whites. The azalea is a symbol of Tochigi Prefecture and is found in abundance in this area.
